like many other americans wanting to take advantage of the $8,000 home buying rebate from the government, we have decided to buy a home--before december 1st. really a crazy process with most homes in foreclosure process and so many roadblocks to overcome....lots to consider in the purchase of a home....and it is revealing as to what/who you are....surprised me in seeing that more clearly from going thru this process.
we have a specific area in mind--near where we are now. we love the schools, we love the rural-ness of it. we need a large house. we still have 6 kids at home.....they all want their own bedroom--yeah right, like that is a possibility! they also want us to move to a sub-division. not happening. we want some acreage. we are on 5 acres now. we (wel, me and kevin) want atleast 2 acres....the kids want next door neighbors and sidewalks. we DON"T want dirt road (hard to find in our town LOL) but want space to breathe. we searched online for houses. i found a house about 1/4 mile from our house. it was going to auction the next day....bummer.
we went and looked at a few, but nothing was wonderful. our realtor was icky. found another house online--great location--great house!!! and thru that found a GREAT realtor. we put in an offer. the kids all LOVED it, and i did too for lots of reasons, but it only had one shared space (family room) and 4 bedrooms, and no place for a sewing room for me. now, it was disheartening to me to see how this really did not seem like a necessity to my family....that they did not get that i not only wanted, but that i really NEEDED a place for my sewing.....disheartening to me that they did not get that--that, after all this time, that they still did not get me......so, we put an offer in on that one...they accept, and counter, we do not accept their counter.
so, we continue to look. found another wonderful one, that kevin would just LOVE to have. he loved the out buildings and the back patio that was screened in. i loved the insides. had living room and family room, 5 bedrooms--so i get one for sewing in--yeah!! interesting to hear the kids versions of how they think people should be hunked up into rooms--of course all still thinking they should be the one with their own room, and me not having a sewing room...they think i should go in the garage....they do not like this house so much. it is older. kevin and i love it.....we put an offer in on that one too. they accept, and they counter. we accept, but it is a short sale...they are anything but short. it is at the beginning of the process.....this could take forever!
we continue to look. oh! look!!! my first house did not sell at auction and is gonna come back on the market....we go look at it. they are not accepting offers yet. we watch it for a day, and i say, make an offer anyway. our realtor does, they accept it but they counter. we accept it....however, they want a FAST escrow, 30 days.....so, it is supposed to close escrow november 23rd!
we love it....well, kevin and i do. the kids mostly like it. one of them does not like it at all. but, eventually they will move out, and kevin and i will still be there....with our land. it is so open and airy. it has 4 bedrooms and a family room, living room, and a great room--the great room is 30 x 21 feet. it is an addition that is like a randma's quarters with it's own bathroom and a little kitchette even. guess what it is going to be??? yep! my sewing room!!! LOL actually, it would have been kevin's and my bedroom, but i didn't like the location of it in the floorplan for a bedroom, so it naturally fell to becoming what is now dubbed the "wii room" since it is so huge, it will be a shared space. with a paper crafting area so the girls can do alot of scrapbooking etc. and also a lounge area with the sectional couches and tv area so they can play rock band and wii etc as well as i can watch movies while i sew....
it is 2 acres, like i said 1/ mile from where i am now, and only about 100 feet maybe on dirt. really everything that we wanted--except for kevin's out buildings and screened in patio.....we went yesterday and took pictures and rough measurements....kevin went and bought some boxes so we can start packing....i made plans of what could go where etc....the really nice thing about moving so close is that we can do a room at a time and not have to really pack lots of the things but sorta load the car, drive the junk over and put it right away.....
the kids are busy picking out paint colors and room layouts--worked out easy that there will be 2 kids in each room and then kevin and me....God is good.....so, Lord willing, all will go well and smoothly and we will be moving the end of the month......
i better get a crack-a-lacking and get some junk sorted thru......

Good luck with the home purchase! It has been a couple days with no news - is that good or bad? I guess there won't be much sewing with a move taking place, but great for you that you'll have sewing space in your new home.
