kevin has tried for HOURS to rescue my computer from the famous BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. i got a virus somehow and now i can not start my computer.....my computer with all of my un-backed up pictures and alot of knitting and quilting patterns on it. and, yeah...that was ALL of my pictures.....all of the kids, grand kids and ireland and redding and cruises, family outings and holidays.......all going to be gone most likely. i hate that kevin has spent HOURS on trying to trick the computer to go back to working so that i do not lose everything. i am blessed that he has the patience of a saint to work so hard at it to make me happy by not losing all of my stuff. i told him, it was ok, he could stop working on it....i mean, it is only pictures and patterns...he has devoted enough time to trying....he says, he wants to try "just one more thing" before giving up....what a wonderful man i am married to....he is worth far more than the pictures and patterns would ever be....and, he should finally quit trying....he doesn't like to give up, but he should......
posting without pictures just isn't as much fun....i know, take new pictures....store them in this computer, and then, back them up.....yeah, i know....just doesn't appeal to me yet....using another computer for storage....like i will have things scattered over too many places....yeah, that is the reason....i like it when things finally go click, and you understand something that has just been a feeling that wasn't nailed down yet...i like the nailing it down part ;o)

Lynne,
I do computer support for my job, and we have had a lot of viruses going around.
If this one is one that won't let it go onto the internet and it keeps trying to sell you a piece of software to "fix" the problem, and every file you try to open is "infected", then have him try a free program called ComboFix from BleepingComputer.com (the others are knockoffs).
I've had it fix this problem a couple of times, but there is never any guarantee. Better than giving up altogether, though.
Good luck!

thanks ever so much connie, but this one is where you don't even get to go anywhere....you can turn it on, and it never even gets to the sign in spot....just goes on, but doesn't go anywhere real--for lack of better computer lingo (since i don't know any LOL)
but, i will pass on ComboFix for bleepingcomputer.com as you mentioned, can't hurt to try right?
he has yet to have the courage to completely wipe out my harddrive and re-install everything.....i am more ok with doing that than i thought i would be actually--but he will be glad to know that there is atleast one new avenue to try before it comes to that.
thanks!--and, i just realized that i am on as my husband so, even though it says jk, it is really from lynne--but i bet you could already tell that huh? lol
Lynne - sorry about your computer woes!! They are wonderful when the work but truly frustrating when they don't!! On another note - I FINALLY finished the top for my Celtic Knotwork mystery - check it out on my blog. I'm so pleased with it - that was a great mystery. Thanks again -
Judie
