more concise starter directions for the 3 strands

i have had more than 50 requests for the pattern already....hip hip hooray!!! i am working on making a concise intro and instructions to put with the excel file that i am trying to convert to a pdf. as one of the wise women on quiltville suggested i should place it in the files there so that i won't have to send it out to the multitudes individually. i think i like that idea :o)
if anyone wants a head start on the gathering or cutting of squares here are the beginnings of my info....

in simple directions, you are just sewing squares together. you follow a chart for placement. you can break the chart up in any way that is useful to you. for me, dividing it in chunks and making 9 ptaches was easy. but, work what is best for you. you will not want to go bigger than a 2 1/2 in. square. the quilt measures 43 squares by 43 squares. easy to decide how big you want your quilt. mini's done in this for a large wall hanging are stunning done with 1 1/2 or 1 1/4 squares.

anyway, decide your background and also 3 colors for the cords. i did a yardage piece of one black fabric, the one that used the most , and scrappy purples, and greens for the other two. and my background was scrappy white on whites all cut at 2 1/2 inches. this new one i am doing, i purchased all new fabric and it is not scrappy at all. to figure my need of fabric, i decided on my size of block (2 1/2 in.) and divided my width of fabric (i think i got 16??)and then divided the needed number of that color (see below) by 16, and that told me how many rows i needed to cut....so, then i took the amount of rows i needed to cut and multiplied it by 2 1/2 inches to get how much yardage i needed to buy, adding a bit for shrinkage and allowing for needing a few more squares in case i lost any LOL

you will need:
cord A: 355

cord B: 302

cord C: 302

background 890

for a total of 1,849 squares.

if you want to add borders later, let your quilt top speak to you. or, if you are using a focus fabric for your cord A, smallish print, and want to use it for your borders, then i would advise getting the border fabric NOW coz you know it will be sold out when you want it later LOL

Hi Lynne,
Did you know that the pattern is now published in the Australian magazine "Patchwork & Quilting"??

I made sure to buy one to support Deborah and now I have the total and concise instructions in one safe place.

I sure hope they paid her anyway!!

You mentioned making a pdf. file of this pattern and I was wondering if you have done so, how I may be able to get (or buy) one. It is a beautiful quilt and would love to make it.

Hi Mavis,

Do you still need this in an excel file? I "dumped" it into a file & will send it to you if you want it.
