a little pile of unfinished quilt tops….

these are known as UFO’s in the quilt world.  i have many un-finished objects….from full size quilts, table toppers, wall hangings, down to postcards….in quilting on a budget, there is a little challenge to get some done.  gotta post a picture of them and what they need to have done to be finished…..then, GET THEM DONE and then post another picture.  each one that gets done has a chance at winning a prize.  since i don’t really need any more “stuff” i am not entering the contest in full, but am in spirit—mostly because i really need the incentive to get some of these things done….here is a partial list of the tops that i have done that are awaiting sandwiching and then quilting.

P1090063

this was a dorothy young mystery, it needs borders still……it is christmassy, and eventually will grow up to be a lap quilt.

P1090064

another of the same mystery, in the same state, needing  borders so it can grow into a lap quilt……one day.

P1090065  i think this was a mystery by tara kos….not sure what it is gonna grow up to be…..or when…if ever.

P1090069            P1090070 this was a mystery by a lady named solvi….i think that she is in norway??  anyway, i LOVE this quilt and the fun border fabric that inspired the color choices for the middle part.  i would love to trade this for a new tatoo—gonna finish it out with a band of white then bind it in black….i think kelly will like it…..if i ever finish it, i can show it to her and barter for a new tat!!!  that alone should be incentive huh???

P1090072 this wonderful sampler quilt was soooo fun to make, it was also a mystery to me, that i requested from a lady, helen peterson, in new zealand.  she had posted that she had designed a mystery for her quilting group, i asked her if i could play along too…she kindly said yes and sent me the pattern directions.  it was fun to make…..she did a great job of writing her directions, and i had great fun making it.  i really do want it finished.  it makes me happy to see it in a picture…..

P1090073 this is my oldest grand daughter’s quilt top.  i have her younger sister’s quilt finished.  and have not started her brother’s or soon to be born cousin’s yet.  i DO have this plan of making a quilt using the same 12 in. finished log cabin block with different settings for each grand kid. eventually, i should have enough blocks for a great grandma’s quilt…so far i only have 2 blocks…i could have 4 if i were caught up!  i better get my butt in gear!  arcadia’s birthday is in may….perhaps i will get hers done by then…one can always hope.

P1090075 this is a fun little twin size scrappy quilt…..i am gonna tie this one i think.  it will make a great utility quilt.  it was semi fun to make, but tedious to make a quilt of squares only to be cut apart and re-sewn together…..was fun for a one time deal……

P1090078 i made this several years ago.  i either need to find some more fabric and make a few more blocks—like that will ever happen—or, i will take off that far right row so that it is then square.  i like square quilts for some reason…..or, they have to be all the same in the corners….this one isn’t and it bugs me….finally, by seeing it in a small picture, i was able to see why i did not like this quilt and what i needed to do to fix it…..wonder if i will ever get it done???  actually, i think i will, coz i want to gift it to someone…..her birthday is in july, so there is also hope for that one getting done…..are you thinking geez, too bad my birthday isn’t in july??  or are you thinking….oh boy!!!  my birthday IS in july and wondering if it is for you???  guess  you just gotta wait to see huh???

P1090080 for some reason i want to say that this is also a dorothy young mystery that was fun to do.  nice and scrappy blues, greens and tans that really echo the colors in the border.  like all of the others, it only needs to be sandwiched and quilted and bound…..only….only????  that is still an awful lot of work….

and, that is a small portion of the quilt tops that i have in the works……but does not show the one that won top billing to be actually finished…..that is in the post to follow this one…..
