a little mystery, a pop up or two, and some celtic knotwork….

FINALLY something quilty!!!! it has been just FOREVER since i have gotten to sit at the machine and do anything fun and quilty so this past weekend there was a mystery at one stitch at a time and i love a mystery quilt—hate anything else mystery though—my curiosity just kills me…anyway, i took some time for myself to play in my stash, cut and stitch and here is my result…

P5290599

and, my mom had just sent me some fabric and look at what was in the box!!!  won’t it make a PERFECT backing???  my goal is to try to not buy ANY fabric, so it is really nice to have this backing come along….

so, i then was working on this AMAZING celtic knotwork quilt.  it is made up of nearly 2,000 pieces of 2 1/2 in. squares…a wonderful lady named deborah designed it and so willingly shared her pattern with me  :o)

it has 3 colors and a background….i am using a really pretty black print that i got on my trip to portland while in redding, so it will be nice to use that fabric to commerorate my trip….then, i pulled purple and green out of the print for the other 2 colors….the purple and green are all scrappy so LOTS of different fabrics there—and, all from stash!!!!  there are about 350 squares of each color.  the background  is all scrappy white on whites….of which i REALLY need more!  there are nearly 900 of WOW and i really don’t want to use more than 20 or so of each fabric, so i am on the hunt for some WOW…if you have any you want to swap, let me know and i will send you any color 2 !/2 strip in exchange….but, i am getting started on my quilt…debbie put it in an excel spread sheet grid and i divided the grid into 25 sections….i am picking random blocks to do….here is one…..

P5290600 and another…..P5290601 and another….

P5290602

looks pretty cool huh?  you can sure see that it is going to have that over and under of celtic knotwork  :o)  i am soooo excited about getting this one done….

i was working on another block this morning and carmen from one stitch at a time (OST) posted a pop up block.  this is a fun little motivational spur of the moment block to do…she is doing a project for the summer of (12) 18 inch blocks .  i decided to make 2 of each block and put them together for the little boys beds….i am using homespuns….so, off i go to make the first block….

P6020629 then, off to old navy for a little retail therapy with rhiannon….we used the wonderful coupons for $50 off a purchase of $100 and of course everything was already on sale anyway, so SCORE!!!  we have another set of coupons we are using tomorrow….so, i get home only to find that dear carmen posted ANOTHER popup…what’s a girl to do????

P6020631

i told carmen NOT to post anymore pop ups—i got work to do!!!  my mom is coming tomorrow—patience and shea graduate tomorrow nite and providence promotes the next day….

for now, i gotta go make these kids eat some dinner and go pick up another kid from a friends…..then i gotta get some cleaning done before i go get my mom tomorrow…..

Celtic Knotwork sounds interesting and I will participate.

Where can I find Carmen at One Stitch at a time? Can't seem to connect to her website.

Thanks,

Joyce Barham

hi joyce,
i believe that one stitch at a time is a closed group now. if you e-mail me, i can see if i can get you an invite.....she just posted 3 more popups so we are up to 8 now :o) i have to get some more pictures posted of them, and i am going to change the green and red--taking out the red squares arond the edges and to change them out to background....

i am glad you will be doing the celtic knotwork, it is really an amazing design.
