i made the basic blocks for this little runner a while ago. in one of my yahoo groups, apocketfullofmysteries, there is a VERY talented designer, dorothy young, that gave use a really easy way to make these little blocks, called it just my size, as you could start with any size squares you wanted....... i did mine out of scrappy homespuns and kona cotton in cream.
i had originally intended to make a nice lap quilt, but they just sat around for a whille....
then, those little leaves i used on one of my fabric postcards just took over and declared that they needed to be put into the cream squares too....trace, cut, trace, cut....stitch, stitch, stitch--and not even by hand! i know, i can't believe it either! i usually do all my applique by hand, but i just fused these down raw edge and then did stitch a center and veins in them....
i made 2 of these for the back of my couch and loveseat. they constantly have to be re-arranged coz they always get messed up, but they give me great joy-- to see all those leaves fluttering every which way......this is the loveseat one, the couch one is 11 x 3. if i ever unearth my dining table it is really going to go there--i bet that it will stay on the couch for much too long...i have more blocks left, and also more leaves cut and ready.....perhaps by the time i get the table unearthed i will have a new one of these done and they can both sport a runner......
i really want some feedback on if i should tea-stain it a bit to take some of the harshness out of it....i am more of a primitave kind of person and even though it is done in cream, i am thinking that i might like it more if it were tea stained--what do you think???
anyways, thanks dorothy for this great simple little block :o)

Hi! Love your table runner...I love the appearance of 'tea stain'.
To me it gives it an earthy tone, which I see in your leaf design.
Let us know what you decide!
Your table runner is beautiful. I would vote for tea-staining..think that it would enhance the colors. Again, I just love it!
I love how it turned out! How fun to finish something! I think tea staining when using homespuns is almost required!
Hi! Dorothy,
Love the runner. Yes I would tea stain it. If you are a prim lover, it needs to be a tad darker.
PS. Looks like Tristan had a great day!

Personally, I really like the way the colours are so vivid, think - leaves against sun-light - It depends upon your table colour and the colouring of your room. I just love the runner the way it is.
I would vote for tea-staining. I've never done it myself, but for the fall look of the runner I'd try the tea method.
Love the table runner, and the leaves really make it! I agree the tea staining might give it a nice earthy, rustic look.
