we went up to grassy hollow in the angeles national forest today for a family day. rhiannon's family was able to join us and we had a great time. j.k., shea, and patience were all at work, and steven stayed home with a few broken ribs.....he broke them with a plate--don't ask how, the doctor had never seen anything like it LOL anyway, it was smokey bear's birthday today. there was a story presentation and smokey was there and then the visitor's center is full of great hands on things for the kids. we sang happy birthday to smokey, had cake and pictures then the family had a nice picnic.
i am so glad that kevin thought of this great outing for us to go on today....
inside the visitors center is a real black bear. his name is vincent and he was about 4-5 yrs old. he weighed 600 lbs. he had a hard time staying up in the mountain where he belonged and even after several attempts of relocating him he would end up right back in to the garbage and he became very aggressive so they had to put him down. they are glad that he is able to teach kids now the importance of not feeding the animals and of using the bear boxes while out camping etc. as well as how big they actually are and alot of other junk about them. randi wasn't too thrilled to get too close to him though..
the kids all had such a great time climbing on all the logs and stumps and all of the open space for them to run and play in.
caoin in the lead, eireland following and tadhgain following with siobhan and me following behind....we had a great climb to the top and down another way the long way round......it was beautiful. i LOVE the mountains. the scent of the pines was amazing!
ah, the thrill of victory!!!! made it to the top! what a great climb!!! 
one of the nice things about our family is that for the most part we do get along. the girls are all really great aunts to rhiannon's kids and to silas too--but they don't see him as often since he lives an hour away....anyway, isn't this a great picture of randi and arcadia??
tadhgain really liked vincent. he liked everything about today. it was one of his very best days ever.....not bad for a family outing huh?
after rhiannon's family, kevin, randi and siobhan all left for home providence, caoin, tadhgain and i all went for another hike.....we had just the best time ever today!!!! i can't wait to go again.....i am gonna get a pass and go up there alot and sit under the trees and knit and stitch.......there are so many wonderful places with benches to sit and look at the vistas and some great hiking trails.....yep, we are all looking forward to going back again soon. thanks kev for the wonderful day of building memories for our family--i know the kids will all grow up and remember when they went to smokey bear's birthday.

Looks and sounds like a great time! Forgive my ignorance, but I don't think I know how to pronounce about half of your family names...
Lynne, it would be great to see a head shot of you so we can see who our new friend is!

yeah....my families names....LOL
many of them are gaelic spellings so they ARE confusing i know....i LOVE all my kids names though and think they are pretty cool....i will have to do a little blog about them :o) my daughter shea (shay) has all of our names tattooed on her forearm going round and round like a ribbon from her elbow to her wrist....pretty cool looking---when people ask her what it is she tells them it is the names of all the guys she has slept with! LOL actually, that is a non-existant list in real life thank God :o)
my youngest is taghgain (teagan) and then is caoinlean (quinlan) we call him caoin (quinn) and then is siobhan (shavon) providence, randi, patience, shea (shay), j.k., jenna, rhiannon (rhee-annon), and daniel.....
as for a head shot....i rarely have my picture taken. i really don't like how i look in pictures at all. i LOVE taking pictures of my feet LOL but rarely will you see me in a picture. i know it is something i need to get over, because it will be sad for my kids to not have many pictures of me later.....my sister rarely had her picture taken before she had cancer either....then, she finally got to where she was in alot of pictures, i guess she knew that she was being selfish by not allowing pictures of herself before....i guess i should take a hint from her--i am finally learning, but it is hard. i will post one in my next post of my trip down memory lane, and i did put one of me and missy from when i was on my trip....i am the one in the black and white top....
